This document outlines alcohol policy requirements for all Group companies, and incorporates a
Commercial Code of Communication, which stipulates minimum standards for
communicating about our products with the public. This includes ensuring that
our advertising is not directed at, nor does it incorporate images of, persons
under the age of 18 years; that it does not portray risky or excessive drinking,
or persons in a state of intoxication; that it does not depict pregnant women,
nor associate with anti-social imagery or behaviour; and that it does not imply
that alcohol consumption is essential to business, academic, social or sporting
success.
Internally, all our employees subscribe to the Employee Alcohol Policy, which provides
guidelines on the responsible use of alcohol. The Company does not tolerate
drinking on duty or being under the influence of alcohol while on duty, and
seeks to educate employees on the responsible use of alcohol, so that they may
act as good ambassadors for the Company and the industry, both inside and
outside the workplace.
Nile Breweries Ltd is a founder member and
major sponsor of the Uganda Alcohol Industry Association (UAIA), an organization
which has been set up to coordinate and direct activities of members to prevent
and reduce alcohol abuse
These activities include the monitoring of
the alcohol industry advertising and promotion code of conduct, and sponsorship
of alcohol related research. UAIA also designs and funds advertising campaigns
aimed at reducing underage drinking. UAIA is also participating in campaigns to
prevent drunk driving and encourage responsible consumption.
